I have tried to write this book for a general audience, but I hope it also proves useful as a supplement in introductory social science and statistics courses.

Data for Teaching Purposes

The data for duplicating the results in Box 3-2 on page 47 are in the file: pres.txt. Have the students regress VOTESHR on GROWTH, INFL, GOODNEWS, PRES, DUR, PARTY, WAR, and CNST. This is for the period 1916-1996, which is 21 observations.

If you want the students to duplicate the results in the 2004 update, The Effect of Economic Events on Votes for President: 2004 Update, the updated data are in the file: presnew.txt. Again, have the students regress VOTESHR on GROWTH, INFL, GOODNEWS, PRES, DUR, PARTY, WAR, and CNST. This is for the period 1916-2004, which is 23 observations. This will duplicate the results in Table 1, column 1, of the 2004 update paper.

The data for duplicating the wine results in Box 6-2 on page 87 are in the file: wine.txt. Have the students regress LPRICE on TEMP, RAIN1, RAIN2, AGE, and CNST.
